Santo Domingo, originally named Santo Domingo de Guzmán, is the capital of the Dominican Republic and is located on the Caribbean Sea. Today, Santo Domingo constitutes the largest cultural, financial, political, commercial and industrial center of the Dominican Republic. The tour will begin with a visit to the Three Eyes Cave (Cueva de los Tres Ojos) where you will appreciate the magic of this natural wonder. You will also visit the Columbus Lighthouse, and then you will go to the Colonial Zone, where you will visit iconic places such as: Cathedral of Santa María la Menor, the oldest cathedral in America and a key site in the religious history of the continent; the Alcázar de Colón, the former residence of Diego Colón, son of Christopher Columbus, a palace that has impressive courtyards and gardens; the Ozama Fortress, one of the oldest fortresses in the continent, built to protect the city against pirates and privateers; the Colón Park, and the Museum of the Royal Houses, among others. After this great tour you will be able to have lunch in a typical Dominican restaurant, where you will learn about the authentic local cuisine. You will also have free time to explore the Colonial Zone on your own.
