We will pick you up at your hotel in Puerto Natales, to leave the city to the Estancia 3R, at 74 miles from the city, where we will be welcome, and the people will tell us about how their work and life is there. From this place, we will walk for half an hour to the Irene Lagoon, where we will see and take pictures of birds. Here we will have our first approach to the local indigenous history and the Patagonian process of colonization, so then we take our vehicle and go to the place where we will start the Sierra Baguales Trek of medium difficulty.
We will begin this trek, of about 7.4 miles, going up by a track with views of the Bagual Mountain Range, where different species coexist, like mountain lions, guanacos and baguales horses (wild horses). After that, we will continue to a lookout located at 3,937 ft. above sea level, from where we will have a panoramic view of the surrounding landscape. In this lookout point, we will make a pause to take better pictures and enjoy our box lunch.
During the trekking also, we will be able to identify marine fossils of millions of years, which will help to understand that the entire Patagonia was seabed once. Then, we will begin the return to our vehicle, and then to Puerto Natales, where our activity ends.
*This activity includes pickup and drop off only at accommodations located inside the urban area of Puerto Natales. It does not include pickup nor drop off in accommodations located outside the urban area of Puerto Natales, like the Hotel Lago Grey, Hotel Las Torres, Hotel Llanuras de Diana, Hotel Río Serrano, Hostería Lago Toro, Hostería Pehoé, Hotel del Paine, Hotel Garden Domes nor Hostal El Puestero.
Sierra Baguales Trek is special because it takes place in a less traveled and much wilder area of Patagonia, compared to traditional tours, such as those in Torres del Paine National Park. This activity allows you to discover a remote area with arid landscapes and mountains with unique rock formations. In addition, the sighting of native fauna and the presence of fossils make this excursion a unique experience from Puerto Natales for those looking to explore the most authentic and isolated Patagonia.
Sierra Baguales Trek is a medium difficulty trek, so it is aimed at people with good physical condition and some experience in mountain hiking. This trek in Patagonia involves several hours of walking on uneven terrain and exposed to variable weather conditions, typical of the region. It is perfect for those looking for a moderate challenge and wishing to explore a remote and wild area of Chilean Patagonia, beyond the most frequented routes near Puerto Natales.
The Sierra Baguales Trek offers unique and little-explored landscapes of Chilean Patagonia, where you can admire impressive rock formations and observe fossils dating back millions of years. In addition, the Sierra Baguales is home to native fauna such as guanacos and condors, making it a paradise for nature and photography lovers. This trek from Puerto Natales is ideal for those looking for an experience beyond the traditional circuits, in a less known area.
