The Andes 1972 Museum, located in the Ciudad Vieja neighborhood of Montevideo, is a private and thematic museum about the Tragedy and Miracle in the Andes, the plane crash that occurred in the Andes mountain range on October 13, 1972 affecting a group of 45 Uruguayans traveling to Chile. The museum is dedicated to the 45 people who were aboard that Fairchild 227 plane, and especially to those 29 who did not return. It is also intended to be a tribute to the 16 people who “came back to life” after surviving 72 long days in the mountains.
