This Madrid Highlights Free Tour begins at the emblematic Puerta de Alcalá, one of the five ancient royal gates that gave access to the city of Madrid. You will advance towards Plaza de Cibeles (Cybele’s Square), in whose epicenter, the goddess Cybele watches over the buildings that surround it, such as the headquarters of the Madrid City Hall, the Linares Palace or the Bank of Spain. You will then visit the Paseo del Prado, which will take you to Madrid's Golden Triangle, also known as the "Art Triangle"; this is the name commonly given to the area that includes the city's three main art museums: the Prado Museum, the Reina Sofía Museum and the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum. Later you will see the imposing lions guarding the Palace of the Congress of Deputies, and following Alcalá Street, you will reach Puerta del Sol, where you will find the statue of the Bear and the Strawberry Tree, and the 9-meter-high equestrian statue of Charles III. You will pass by the Santa Cruz Palace and appreciate the local architecture of the 17th century. Then, at the Almudena Cathedral, you will be able to admire the mixture of architectural styles such as neo-Gothic and neoclassical. Finally, you will be able to see the Royal Palace, a baroque building with more than 3,000 rooms and works by artists such as Caravaggio, Velázquez and Goya.
