What to bring

  • A 40 to 70 liter backpack for all the circuit.
  • Waterproof jacket and pants (Gore-Tex of similar).
  • Polar warm clothes (Polartec or similar).
  • Thermal clothing (first layer).
  • Short and long sleeved T-shirts.
  • Waterproof mountain boots (must cover the ankle).
  • Enough batteries (there is no energy to charge electronic devices in te road).
  • Flip-flops (for showers, rest and river crossing, it it were necessary).
  • Flashlight.
  • Towel.
  • Winter hat and gloves for cold temperatures.
  • Cap to protect yourself from the sun.
  • Sun block.
  • Sunglasses.
  • Camera.
  • Personal first-aid kit.
  • Water bottle (Nalgene or similar).

Itinerary

Let's ascend the highest mountain of Peru with this South Huascarán climb of 7 days, which will give us the chance to live the adventure in a mountain complex of three peaks, reaching the summit of the highest of them.


Day 1: Huaraz – Pashpa – Base Camp.

You will leave early from Huaraz heading north towards the Alley of Huaylas. You will pass through Yungay and then you will continue the road to the town of Musho, at 3050 m altitude. You will arrive at the Huascarán Base Camp, at 4200 m altitude, where you can have dinner and rest until the next day.



Day 2: Base Camp – Moraine Camp.

After breakfast you will tidy up the camp and walk through the rocks towards the Huascarán Moraine Base Camp, at 4850 m altitude. Here you can have lunch and relax, watching the sunset in the mountains.


Day 3: Moraine Camp – Camp One.

After breakfast and tidying up the camp, you will walk along the rocks to the entrance of the glacier. Here you will make an ascent to reach Huascarán Camp One, at 5350 m altitude. After 5 hours of walking and climbing you will arrive at Camp One to spend the night.


Day 4: Camp One – Camp Two.

After breakfast you will head towards the gutter, a route that will take you to Huascarán Camp Two, at 6010 m altitude. Here you will set up camp, have dinner and enjoy the sunset view before going to sleep.


Day 5: Camp Two – Summit – Camp Two.

The day will begin at 00:00 with breakfast. Then you will walk by ice and snow sidewalks for approximately 7 hours until you reach the summit, at 6768 m altitude. Here you can observe the Cordillera Blanca in all its splendor, if weather conditions allow it. Then you will begin the rappelling descent following the same route used to reach the summit to the Huascarán Camp Two. After 5 hours of journey you will be able to rest until the next day. 


Day 6: Camp Two – Camp One – Moraine Camp.

After breakfast and tidying up the camp, you will begin the descent to Huascarán moraine, passing by Camp One. You will arrive at the place where you will spend the last night after 6 hours of journey.


Day 7: Moraine Camp – Musho – Huaraz.

After breakfast you can organize your things and equipment to return on a 5-hour hike. You will pass by the Base Camp to move the equipment to Musho town. Here you will take the bus that will take you back to Huaraz on a 2-hour trip.
