We will gather at our meeting point to start this Meknes, Moulay Idriss and Volubilis Day Trip. First you will pass through Volubilis, an ancient Roman city located in the territory of modern Morocco, about 20 km north of Meknes. The archaeological site of Volubilis probably is the best preserved Roman vestige in this area of North Africa. It was included in the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1997. Here you can walk around the walls and appreciate its beautiful mosaics that are representative of Roman architecture. The guide will accompany you providing the necessary historical data to understand how the Roman Empire transformed this Phoenician and later Carthaginian settlement into a representative Roman city. Then you will continue to Moulay Idriss, a city located in the north of Morocco, which extends over two hills at the base of Zerhoun mountain. Here you will have time for a delicious lunch. You can contemplate the amazing panoramic views of the city from these mountains and you can also see the archaeological site of Volubilis surrounded by the green environment that accompanies the Fertassa River. Then you will go to the imperial city of Meknes, located 552 meters above sea level, in one of the best agricultural and productive areas of Morocco, making it an important point for trade, agriculture and crafts. Here you will visit El Hedim, a popular square where you can find musicians, storytellers and snake charmers. You can visit the Dar Jamai Museum and discover modern Moroccan art expressed in textile pieces, jewelry, ceramics, carpets and carpentry. Next you will visit the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail, the second ruler of the Moroccan Alawite dynasty. Finally you will conclude the excursion by returning to the city of Fez.
