We will pick you up at your hotel and we will leave towards the west of the city of El Calafate, to the Estancia Nibepo Aike. Along the way you will be able to spot condors, foxes, hares or a herd of sheep. The idea is to be able to live an authentic day in the countryside in a typical Patagonian ranch, which was originally dedicated to raising sheep and lambs, but today is dedicated to beef cattle production. The guide will welcome you to the Estancia and will walk you to the barbecue area where a hot drink (tea, coffee or mate) will be offered accompanied by homemade pastries. Here you can take a break to enjoy the magnificent view of the Andes Mountains. After this, the group will head towards the corrals to witness the milking and herding of the sheep towards the pastures, before the group is separated between those who chose the walk or the 45-minute horseback ride (not included).
On this tour you will have great views of the South Branch of the Argentine Lake, discovering various rocky outcrops eroded by glacial action and the changes in lake levels caused by the natural ice dam generated by the Perito Moreno Glacier. Along the way you will be able to appreciate the lenga and ñire forests, where caranchos, austral parakeets, hares, woodpeckers, eagles live, and the abundant variety of native flora.
The tour ends in the old shearing shed, which now is a small historical museum, a vestige of the years in which the farm was mainly dedicated to sheep farming, today replaced by a prestigious Polled Hereford cabin. Here there will be a shearing with scissors demonstration as it used to be done before the creation of the electric shears. The horsemen will be waiting in the surrounding corrals to show their skills or, depending on the rural activities of the day, do farm work. Finally you will return to the barbecue area where a stake roasted lamb awaits you. After lunch you will have free time until it is time to return to El Calafate.
