Start: Day 1 at 6:50 am from the main square of Cusco.
End: Day 2 at 21:30 pm in downtown Cusco.
Day 1: Cusco - Hidroeléctrica - Aguas Calientes.
We will begin the tour leaving Cusco early in the morning on a vehicle trip to reach the Sacred Valley of the Incas and Ollantaytambo. You will make a brief stop at a Sacred Valley store where you can use the restroom and purchase water and snacks for the trip. You will take the route that passes through Abra Málaga, at 4400 m altitude, and several curves, and then begin the descent to Santa Marta. You will arrive at another place called Santa Teresa, before continuing the trip to Hidroeléctrica. Here you can have lunch and rest before beginning the 3-hour self-guided hike along the railway line to reach Aguas Calientes, or Machu Picchu Pueblo, as the locals call it. There you will have time to walk through its streets, eat something (not included) and then rest for the next day.
Day 2: Machu Picchu - Hidroeléctrica - Cusco.
To start this day you have two options: a demanding 2-hour hike up the stairs until reaching the citadel, for which it is advisable to start at 04:30, or take the optional bus service to the citadel starting at 06:00. A guide will be waiting for you at the Llaqta gate to begin the tour of the citadel's most important sites. This tour lasts approximately two hours, during which you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the history of the Quechua people and the mysteries of the Seventh Wonder of the Modern World. After the tour and taking some photographs, we recommend you to begin the return hike to Hidroeléctrica to catch the transportation back to Cusco.
*The road used to reach Hidroelectrica has many bends and it is not a very good condition, which makes it a little bit difficult for some people.
