We will gather at our meeting point to start this Xochimilco, Coyoacan & Frida Kahlo Museum Tour. The first stop will be a silver carving workshop where a local family will explain this tradition and art, and you will be able to admire and buy some souvenirs. Afterwards, you will head to Coyoacán, which in Nahuatl means “place of coyotes”. Here, the local guide will give you a brief explanation about the origin and importance of this neighborhood and its surroundings, which has a high concentration of cultural and tourist infrastructure. You will also have time to stroll through its streets and, if you wish, have breakfast (not included). Then, if you include this option, you can visit the Frida Kahlo home-museum, or the “Blue House,” where you will learn about Frida, her works, her home, and her history. The tour continues to one of Frida Kahlo’s favorite places, Xochimilco. The origins of Xochimilco date back to the Mesoamerican Preclassic Period when its shores and islands were home to various peoples. You can learn about its origins and enjoy a ride on a trajinera, a traditional boat from the area. The last stop is at Ciudad Universitaria where the local guide will explain the murals of the Rectorate and the Central Library belonging to the main campus of the National University.
