We will gather at our meeting point to begin this Excursion to Esztergom, Visegrád and Szentendre, where you will enjoy picturesque views of all the cities and learn about Hungarian history along the Danube. Esztergom used to be the capital of Hungary, but it is still the center of the Catholic church. Here you will visit the largest cathedral in Hungary. You will then cross the river into Slovakia and enjoy the view of the Basilica. You will then head to Visegrád where, after the Mongol invasion, a new fortification was built in the mid-13th century. The top of the hill offers a fascinating view of the Danube Valley. After enjoying the view you will have time to have lunch (not included). You will then visit Szentendre, a small baroque town built on medieval ruins. The city is considered the Artists' Village or the City of the Painters. You will walk through the historic center and see the narrow cobblestone streets as well as the baroque houses. After the guided tour you can also visit some museums such as the famous Margit Kovács Ceramics Museum or the Confectionery Museum with marzipan figures. Finally you will return to Budapest by boat (available from May to September, weekends only) or by bus.
