We will gather in the Regocijo Square, in Cusco's downtown, to take the vehicle that will take us to the ecological reservation of Llaullipata, very close to the ruins of Sacsayhuamán. There, in the planetarium rooms, we will have an introduction talk about quechua astronomy, in which we will receive information about the Andean man and the cosmos. Then, we will go to the dome where a virtual projection of the sky is made, in which we will be able to identify the quechua constellations, very different to the ones identified by today's men. Finally, there is a telescope observation that will be made if the weather conditions of the moment allow it. If the sky is clear, we will identify the quechua constellations, and celestial objects of the universe that are not visible with the naked eye. Once ended the observation, we will begin our return to Cusco's downtown.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Where is astronomical observation carried out in Cusco?

The Astronomical Tour in Cusco takes place in a specialized space, such as the Planetarium Cusco, located near the city and surrounded by nature, which minimizes light pollution. This place offers an ideal environment to observe the night sky, learn about the visible constellations and understand the relationship between astronomy and the Andean worldview of the Incas.

  • What equipment is used on the Cusco astronomical tour?

The tour uses professional telescopes, laser pointers to identify constellations, and audiovisual tools that complement the experience. At facilities such as the Planetarium Cusco, you can also enjoy a projection of the starry sky on a dome, allowing you to observe details that might not be visible due to weather conditions.

  • Is the Astronomical Tour in Cusco carried out in any type of weather?

Weather conditions are important for astronomical observation, but the tour is designed to accommodate. If the sky is cloudy or rainy, the Planetarium Cusco offers interactive projections inside its dome, recreating the starry sky.
