We will leave Cusco very early in the morning to begin this trip until reaching Cusipata. Here you will have time to have breakfast, and then continue the route where you will be able to see alpacas and the snow-capped mountains of the Peruvian Andes. In Checacupe you will visit the 3 bridges: Inka, Colonial and Republican. You will arrive at the community of Palcoyo from where the Palcoyo Rainbow Mountain Trekking begins, a 1-hour walk where you will be able to see the three colored mountains and reach the stone forest. During the walk you will have wonderful views of the colors and the mountains around. This is a less demanding and less visited activity than the Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain, so you will surely have more space and time to take pictures. After this, you will return to the vehicle to go to Cusipata where you will enjoy your lunch. Finally, you will visit the Huaro hand, before returning to Cusco, where the activity ends.
Yes, it is recommended to properly acclimate before tthe Palcoyo Rainbow Mountain Trek, as it is located at an altitude of approximately 4,800 meters above sea level. It is advisable to do this on the third day after arriving in Cusco to adapt to the conditions and avoid altitude sickness.
The main difference between Palcoyo Rainbow Mountain and Vinicunca lies in the type of hike and difficulty. While Vinicunca, also known as Rainbow Mountain, is more challenging due to its steep terrain and higher altitude, Palcoyo offers a gentler and more accessible trek, ideal for those looking for a less demanding option.
